Fall is also known as layering season, that time of year when a button-down alone doesn't cut it, and when tees just feel better with a knit cardigan or a leather jacket. There are numerous ways to get into Fall's layering vogue. Though knit cardigans have been a staple in most wardrobes, they're definitely not the be-all and end-all of layers. When you want to give your jeans-and-tee outfit an urban vibe, look no further than a cropped leather jacket. For more of an edge, you could go for a belted moto jacket in black or a neutral tone. To elevate your workwear and fend off the cool air, simply throw on a classic leather jacket. Those complement white button-down shirts beautifully and can also be worn casually with jeans. An all-time favorite of mine for Fall layering is the quintessential trench coat! Trench coats have been around for a long time and continue to have a strong hold in the layering space. Once limited to beige woven materials, trench coats now come in options such as faux leather and denim. This burgundy faux leather coat is an easy way to add a sophisticated touch to even the simplest fit. A denim trench coat is also a great option when you want to impart a cool, street-style flair to an outfit. Layers are what make Fall style the best style IMO and why a jacket plays such an important part during this time of the year. Check out these jacket picks that will give dimension to your Autumn fits.

Styling a Trench Coat for Fall

Fashion blogger Farotelle wearing a blue denim dress with a khaki beige trench coat, silk scarf, and spaghetti leather bag, women Fall outfit ideas, trench coat style, Minneapolis fashion blogger, Fall transitional style

Fall embodies a multitude of fashion moods. Fall is "boot season", it is "scarf season", and among other things, Fall is also "layer season". And when it comes to layering outfits during Fall and especially during the Summer-to-Fall transitional period, a trench coat is the perfect choice for classic and effortless style. Trench coats have evolved from mostly being raincoats to now being a staple piece for transitional weather, think early Spring and early Fall. The classic trench coat features a midi length, a structured khaki material, and a double-breasted button closure. Over the years however, the color palette for trench coats has expanded from neutral khaki to bold hues such as red and yellow. And more recently, trench coats have undergone even more fashionable updates including a shorter length. From midi, we now have cropped trench coats that are easy to layer and lend a contemporary vibe to Fall fashion. I love a trench coat, long or short and in the rest of this post, I'm sharing different ways to style a trench coat during this time of the year, early Fall that is.

Midi Trench Coat with Denim Dress

Denim dresses have renewed their staple status thanks to classic and modern updates such as midi to maxi lengths, shirt-dress silhouettes, and more ample fits. Those changes make denim dresses a fashionable choice for Fall and one that plays well with the weather too given denim's substantial feel. To dial up the cozy factor, I topped my blue denim shirtdress with a neutral beige trench coat and knee-high suede boots. This elevated casual fit works well as a transitional Fall combo and brings a good dose of style to off-hours feats.

Midi Trench Coat with Jogger Pants

When you want to strike an alluring balance between sporty chic and business casual, look no further than a khaki pair of joggers with an oversized striped button-down shirt, pointy kitten heels, and a trench coat. This look is easy to assemble and a snazzy option for weekends and office days alike.Β

Another spin on the joggers-and-trench combo is to tuck in a striped shirt and go for boots. Boots are a Fall staple and pairing them with a trench coat is a surefire way to give a look all kinds of Fall vibes.

Midi Trench Coat with Wide-Leg Jeans

Wide-leg jeans are always a good idea in my book and an item I frequently reach for for casual dressing. For this outfit, I also went for a striped shirt. Obviously I have a weakness for those and the fun fact is that the striped shirts featured in this look and those above are all different! Color-wise I find that denim blue and khaki beige make a classic match hence my beige trench coat and accessories. You could swap the sandals for boots if that's more your vibe but I'll argue there's still a little bit of time left for open strappy shoes!

Midi Trench Coat with Blue Jeans

There are many ways to spin a blue jeans and trench coat combo. In the previous look, I opted for wide-leg jeans for more of a relaxed vibe. For this look, I went for ankle straight-leg jeans that I paired with the same trench coat as earlier, but buttoned up and cinched for a more polished style. To give it a sporty vibe, you could swap the pointed-toe boots for a pair of lifestyle sneakers.

Cropped Trench Coat with Wide-Leg Pants

Fall's usually the time to go for length however a little cropped action can make quite the fashion difference during this season. Case in point: this cropped trench coat. It's the perfect layering piece over long, wide-leg pants as it brings visual balance to the look. For this outfit, I was going for a modern business professional vibe hence the white button-down shirt, wide leather belt, and large leather tote.

These outfits showcase just how versatile and indispensable a trench coat is to a Fall wardrobe. Whether you prefer it in a midi length or cropped style, a trench coat in a neutral hue is sure to impart a sophisticated allure to your transitional Fall style. Which look did you like the most and do you consider trench coats to be a closet staple? Chime in the comments!

How I Style Baggy Jeans for Work

How to style baggy jeans for work, blue jeans and a green blazer outfit, Farotelle fashion blog, Minneapolis content creator, classic and colorful style

Yes, we tend to think of baggy jeans as casual pieces but who says you can't zhuzh them up for the office? If you follow me, you know that I love jeans, whether they be barrel, straight, or wide-leg! And I also love a baggier silhouette for a super comfy fit and modern allure. Loose-fitting clothing has been in vogue for a few years and we've seen that trend manifest with a lot of our closet staples – think oversized shirts, oversized blazers, and looser tees. And jeans have not been spared from this craze! Boyfriend jeans were mainstream at some point, and now, we see classic fits being adapted into more ample cuts. Even for those of us who are into more tailored and fitted outfits, it's hard to resist the ease and laid-back vibe that comes with a baggy pair of jeans, especially when it's one you can pair with a lot of your closet items. The key to ensuring that a pair of baggy jeans is versatile is to go for a simple silhouette and a classic wash such as a dark indigo blue hue. I scored these Levi's jeans last year and have worn them a lot on the weekends. But they also work well with an office outfit, if smart casual is your thing!Β

Elevating baggy jeans for the office is as easy as pairing them with a structured blazer, dressy pumps, and sharp accessories. I chose a longline green blazer because I absolutely love a dark blue and green combo! To add polish to the look, I wore my green Sergio Hudson leather belt.

Matching the belt to the blazer creates shape without distracting from the bold green hue. For accessories, I did a metallic gold bag and metallic gold shoes for a luxe touch. This look is super easy to pull off and I have shared some pieces if you'd like to recreate it! I went for green, but any colorful blazer would do.Β

So as you can see, a baggy pair of jeans is not just for casual feats! It can go places, you just have to pair it with the right pieces.Β
