Styling a Linen Vest for Summer Casual Outings

It's officially warm enough to indulge in the material of the season: linen! The great thing about linen is not only how comfortable it is in hot weather, it's also how it can be dressed up or down. I recently got this chocolate brown longline linen vest and instantly fell for the beautiful brown hue, the tall-girl friendly style, and the blazer-like double-breasted closure. It's a versatile garment that can easily be worn casually or as part of a dressy outfit.
For this look, I went for an elevated casual Summer vibe by pairing the sleeveless vest with a light neutral denim culotte, my favorite New Balance 327 sneakers, and a wide woven sash belt. The neutral color palette of this outfit gives it a sophisticated allure, and a bit of seasonless chic. In fact, brown hues are a go year-round, and I waste no time incorporating them in my outfit rotations. In this post, I shared some ideas for pairing dark brown with blue jeans.
Back to this outfit, I think brown and beige create beautiful tonal color-blocking, but if monochromatic style is more your thing, then you could swap the beige jeans for matching brown linen pants. This would make for a snazzy coordinated effect that could be worn casually with sneakers, or dressed up with matching brown heels. Another way to spin this vest-and-culotte outfit is to pair the top with a pair of bermuda shorts. Those are on trend at the moment and an easy way to build Summer weekend outfits. Bermuda shorts are not my cup of tea though, given my pronounced hourglass shape and the fact that shorts tend to make my thighs look thicker. Anyway, I wore this beige culotte and brown linen vest outfit for a coffee date with my husband, run weekend errands, and just casually stroll the downtown Minneapolis streets. Where would you wear this look?
