Trench jackets are a staple piece for transitional weather, think early Spring and early Fall. The classic trench coat features a midi length, a structured khaki material, and a double-breasted button closure. Over the years however, the color palette for trench coats has expanded from neutral khaki to bold hues such as red and yellow. And more recently, trench coats have undergone even more fashionable updates including a shorter length. If there's one outfit formula that never fails during the Fall, it's a statement pair of jeans with a trench coat. For this look, I was going for a classic Fall outfit mixed with some contemporary edge hence the balloon cargo jeans with a brown cropped faux leather trench. This pairing gives off a modern chic allure and just enough edge to turn heads at big fashion events such as New York Fashion Week. It's hard to believe that the second edition of New York Fashion Week in 2025 is only a few days away! The earlier edition in February highlighted the Fall/Winter 2025/2026 trends, while this September will be all about the Spring/Summer 2026. I always love to tune into the happenings of these fashion events to discover new designers, see where legacy houses are going next, and marvel at the sartorial imagination that animates the runways. It's inspiring to witness so much expression and art, and to imagine ways to weave it into our day to day. Dressing for New York Fashion Week is all about making a statement. It's about showing up authentically but in a very expressive and unique way. And when it comes to making a statement, I find that bold prints always deliver. So for this outfit, I opted for my bold black and white printed skirt that I paired with a bold graphic sweatshirt for a catchy contrast. To make the black and white base more interesting, I played up the burgundy imprint of the sweatshirt by adding burgundy accessories including a burgundy wide belt, a silk scarf, a burgundy leather clutch bag, and burgundy suede boots. This look balances a classic vibe with a more streetstyle mood and I absolutely stan it.

2. Balloon Jeans with a Printed Longline Top

September and October are my favorite months when it comes to fashion because they mark the beginning of Fall, and Fall is the best fashion season in my opinion. It's the time of the year when you can really play with layers, textures, and a pretty rich color palette. And because of this, the September edition of New York Fashion Week is my favorite of the two. For this look, I was again going for a statement ensemble, one that would reflect my style yet be a little extra. So I wore my ballon jeans and topped them with a balloon-sleeve white shirt layered with a sleeveless printed longline top. I added a belt to sculpt the look and went for brown boots to dial up the Fall vibe. At the base, this is a simple blue jeans and a white shirt outfit, however the printed top really puts a stand-out spin on it, and that's the way to do it when heading to New York Fashion Week.

The oversized gold earrings, the super chunky leather bangle, and wide waist belt all add to the standout vibe of the skirt. The wide waist belt also helps blend the top and bottom beautifully, and the tie detail softens the look with a feminine aura. And same for the light strappy sandals. This look checks the elevated casual box and can multitask from a relaxed office setting to wedding parties and shopping trips.

Another option to rock a black-and-white printed skirt is to simply wear it with a fitted black top. I opted for a sleeveless square neck top to go along with the geometric print. This is a look that can multitask for work if worn with heels, or be perfect for weekends if worn with ballet flats or casual sandals.

A surefire way to make a black-and-white print pop is to pair it with a bright color. I opted for a bright red button-down linen shirt to create a striking contrast. And to balance the voluminous skirt silhouette and the oversized shirt, I added my wide waist belt. This is a bold yet fun outfit that is perfectly appropriate as workwear and just like the previous look, can multitask beyond work hours.

Contrary to what many tend to think, bold prints are not only great for the warmer seasons, they also play well with Fall and Winter style. For this Fall outfit, I paired my black and white printed skirt with a light gray graphic sweatshirt. I was going for more of a street style vibe and a good dose of contrast. The relaxed graphic statement on the sweatshirt juxtaposed to the more classic midi skirt create an interesting outfit that is simple, yet striking. This would make the perfect look for attending New York Fashion Week or other fashion events. Color-wise, I intersperse burgundy throughout the look to dial up the Fall mood.

As you can see, a printed skirt brings versatile options to Summer dressing. But a printed skirt also works wonders in the Fall and Winter seasons.
