3 Tips to Spice Up Your Knitwear this Fall/Winter
Share
One of the things I always look forward to when Fall and Winter come around is knitwear. Knitwear is usually characterized by stretchy and cozy materials that deliver tons of comfort during the cool seasons. Although knitwear tends to be worn more casually, there are plenty of ways to spin it into elevated everyday style. Whether it's pants, skirts, sweaters or cardigans, you're sure to find many knitwear pieces that fit your style. I own a lot of knitwear, some very basic pieces, and others a little more interesting. Creating an outfit with knitwear can be fun, especially if you go for an outcome that's not too plain. Here are 3 ways that I spice up my knitwear during the Fall and Winter.
1. Play with color
This sounds like a simple tip, but a bold colorplay is always going to take an outfit up a notch. Fall and Winter are usually neutral-heavy seasons when beige and gray take centerstage. But one thing I've enjoyed seeing more and more over the last few years is knitwear in bold and vibrant hues. And those hues play very well with the neutrals we all love.

For this look, I opted for a blue ribbed off-the-shoulder sweater with a camel brown knit skirt and brown western boots. I added a belt for a bit of definition and polish. This is an easy elevated casual look that is perfect for off-hour errands and gatherings.
2. Go for texture and patterns
Texture makes a big difference when it comes to knitwear. Yes you get a lot of versatility with a flat knit, but a little bit of cable action or contrasting stitching adds a ton of style to knitwear.

This sweater not only boasts feminine puff sleeves, it also features cable texture topped with contrasting stitching details that make it stand out from the typical beige sweater. I paired it with blue jeans and western boots for a chic and contemporary casual outfit.
3. Mix materials
Head-to-toe knitwear is a vibe that I enthusiastically subscribe to for maximum cozy in the Fall and Winter, but knitwear also looks great with non-knitwear materials. Think your favorite oversized sweater with a pair of faux-leather jogger pants. Or a midi knit dress with a moto leather jacket. Something about juxtaposing different materials always creates a bit of interest in a look.
Striped sweaters are definitely a staple in any classic wardrobe and pairing an oversized one with faux leather pants makes for an edgy casual ensemble that can be worn with heels as office workwear, or with sneakers for casual outings.

Another way to achieve snazzy Fall style with knitwear is to pair a midi or maxi knit dress with a leather moto jacket. This is a favorite combo of mine during the cold seasons. I like the feminine flair of a fitted knit dress paired with the rock-and-roll attitude of a moto jacket. Though I opted for a monochrome palette, you could recreate this combo with color-blocked pieces for even more punch.
The possibilities are many when it comes to pepping up knitwear in the Fall and Winter. These are just a few ways that I go at it, and I would love to hear how you elevate your knitwear game during this time of the year. Chime in in the comments!
